Call for Speakers

Welcome to another year of the Got Anthropology? Speaker Series! We are now looking for speakers for the 2018-2019 lineup. As attendees of our past events know, this speaker series is different in that it is not just about explaining your own research, but rather about developing and delivering a presentation on something that the general public can get excited about. It is about engaging with our community in an academically responsible way and developing professional communication skills to help you reach a wider audience.

Successful applicants will develop a 50 minute TED Talk-style presentation that explores anthropological topics in an accessible, engaging way. Got Anthropology? is a unique professionalization opportunity where you will be able to develop an important skill set for public engagement. Participating in Got Anthropology?, you will practice public speaking, community outreach, non-academic communications, and public engagement.

New this year, each presenter will be given the opportunity to co-create a short promotional video to advertise their talk.

We are seeking six graduate student speakers from the University of Toronto, and will be accepting applications until 5 pm on October 5th, 2018. Completed applications or related questions can be sent to AnthroSpeakersSeries@gmail.com. The application, past topics, and further details can be found here.
